Interwoven - 2024 Call for Entry

Submission Deadline: 5pm, June 28

Welcome to Interwoven, our inaugural annual, non-juried exhibition that gives every TAC member an opportunity to exhibit ONE of their recent fiber works in our gallery!

If you’re a member (membership must be current on opening day of show) and you follow the instructions below for submission, your work will be included in the exhibition!

To complete the Call for Entry:

  1. Ensure that you purchased a supporting membership with TAC in the last year (Friend, Contributor, or Sustainer level). Membership is active for one year from date of purchase. To confirm membership try searching your email for “Textile Arts Center of Madison: Order Confirmed.” This should retrieve your confirmation email that includes the day you purchased your membership. You can add a new membership or renew by clicking HERE and adding it to your cart for checkout.

  2. Fill out the application linked below.

  3. Review the Artwork Loan Agreement linked below. You will be provided with a copy to sign when you drop off your work off at TAC.

  4. If you aren’t sure about your membership status, please email Heather at heather@textileartsmadison.org.

If there are any issues with the upload of your application, or your membership, you will be contacted by TAC staff.

PLEASE NOTE: Currently there is no fee to participate in TAC’s member exhibition. However, if you are able to make a suggested donation of $25 or more, this will help defray exhibition costs and prevent a fee for future member exhibitions. Thank you for considering!

About Your Work:

  • Work must be finished upon submission of application.

  • Only ONE piece may be submitted per artist-member.

  • The piece referenced in the application will be the piece exhibited at TAC.

  • Work submitted must be fiber art related. The definition of fiber art for the purposes of this exhibition is the following: Fiber art uses fiber arts and textile materials, processes, traditions, histories, and/or sensibilities in the artistic and creative conception, execution, and resolution of the work. Examples of techniques include, but are not limited to weaving, quilting, knitting, crochet, sewing, printing, dyeing, felting, needle work, lace making, basketry, papermaking, and beading. Techniques can also include use of materials such as metal and polymer clay.

  • A high-resolution photograph of the piece to be exhibited must accompany the application. File format: JPEG only. File dimensions: 1920 pixels or larger, on the longest side. File resolution: 96 ppi/dpi (NEW standard web resolution.) File size: 5MG maximum. Most iPhones and Smart phones can take photos at this resolution.

  • Work must be installation ready, with all hardware provided by the artist. Framed work must have a hanging wire that does not show over the top of the work. If fabric pieces have a hanging sleeve sewn in, the hanging stick, assuming it is not a featured element of the art, should not show beyond the sides or top of the piece. If a hanging wire is used, it must not extend beyond the top of the work. Any work without a hanging device will be installed as carefully as possible by TAC staff.

Work Limitations/Requirements:

Dimensions (height/vertical x width/horizontal x depth/front to back)

  • 2 Dimensional work should be less than or equal to 144"--total perimeter measurement around a 4-sided box around the work (drawn as a SQUARE or RECTANGLE with 4, 90-degree corners, surrounding around all sides of the piece.) This must also include the space necessary between segments of diptychs or other multiple piece works. All 2-D work meeting these requirements will be accepted. Larger works will be considered; see not below.

  • 3 Dimensional work will be presented on pedestals or on the floor. The maximum size of H x W x D added together cannot exceed 108″. For example, this is a form that is 36 inches by 36 inches by 36 inches or proportional. Larger works will be considered; see note below.

    • Due to gallery space limitations, we can only accept a limited number of works requiring pedestal display. 3-dimensional works will be accepted at the discretion of TAC staff.

    • Please provide an alternate 2-dimensional work in the event your 3-dimensional work is not accepted. See submission form for more information.

    • 3-dimensional does not refer to garments or wearable art displayed on a dress form. See the following.

  • GARMENTS AND WEARABLE ART must be life-size or smaller. Members must provide a dress form or mannequin. Otherwise, garments will be draped to fit a 2-dimensional surface not to exceed the 144″ square limitation, and they will be hung in front of or on a wall, based on TAC staff discretion.

  • WORK SUSPENDED FROM CEILING.

    • Due to gallery space limitations, we can only accept a limited number of works requiring ceiling display. Ceiling suspended works will be accepted at the discretion of TAC staff.

    • Please provide an alternate 2-dimensional work in the event your ceiling-suspended work is not accepted. See submission form for more information.

    • Works must be under 5 pounds. Heavy suspended works, over 5 pounds, cannot be installed from the ceiling, and cannot be accommodated due to safety and access considerations.

  • Objects protruding from the wall more than 6 inches may not be accommodated due to safety and access considerations.

Note: It is our greatest wish to exhibit your work and being able to show work of all sizes is important to TAC and the community. Do not hesitate to apply with larger works, but please understand that TAC’s exhibition space is limited and may not accommodate all pieces greater than the dimension parameters above.  If your work exceeds the dimension parameters and TAC is not able to show it, you will be contacted by mid-July and given the chance to reapply with a smaller work.

All work must be hand-delivered to TAC.
